At Shidaa Foundation, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive, regardless of their circumstances. Our mission takes us across continents, from our base in Canada to the heart of rural Ghana, driven by founders whose roots span both nations. Today, we want to share a heartwarming story that embodies the very essence of our work: the story of Emmanuel Kofi from Axim.
The Heart of the Mission: Axim’s Hope
Emmanuel Kofi, a bright young boy from Axim, Ghana, faced a challenge that threatened his daily journey to school. Despite his eagerness to learn, his disability meant that without a functional wheelchair, consistent attendance was a struggle. It was a stark reminder of the learning inequality we are committed to eradicating.
When the Shidaa Foundation heard Emmanuel’s story, we knew we had to act. We launched our “Wheels to School” initiative, calling upon our incredible community to help. And you responded! Thanks to your overwhelming generosity, we successfully collected $2,155 in donations, not only meeting but surpassing our $2,000 goal. This collective effort meant one thing: Emmanuel would receive a brand-new wheelchair, ensuring his path to education was no longer hindered. Seeing him roll into school with a new sense of independence is a moment that truly makes our work feel good.
Bridging Continents: Impact in Ghana and Canada
The story of Emmanuel Kofi is just one example of the profound impact Shidaa Foundation strives to make. Our founders, with their deep understanding of both Canadian and Ghanaian communities, have built an organization dedicated to empowering youth through education and alleviating poverty on two fronts.
In Ghana, our focus is on foundational needs. We distribute essential school supplies like backpacks and books, establish vital infrastructure such as libraries, and address critical issues like the severe desk shortage that impacts learning environments. It’s about removing fundamental barriers so children can access quality education.
Meanwhile, in Canada, we support educational initiatives that empower young minds to thrive. This includes educational workshops, extra-curricular kits, and providing access to technology and resources that enhance digital learning. Our tailored approach ensures we meet the unique needs of children in both developed and developing contexts.
Our Enduring Partnership: A Commitment to Change
For us, the work doesn’t stop at one success story. We are incredibly proud to say that we are working for the Shidaa Foundation every year, consistently supporting their vital mission. Each year brings new challenges and new opportunities to make a difference, and we are committed to being a part of that positive change. It truly feels good to contribute to an organization that transforms lives with such dedication and transparency.
We’re grateful to donors like the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, who generously contributed 6,000 books, and BIC‘s support with stationery supplies. Our technology initiatives are also boosted by donors like the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), who provided refurbished laptops to support digital learning. The Shidaa Foundation is also a registered Canadian charity, verifiable through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
Join the Movement: Your Role in the Story
The Shidaa Foundation’s impact, from providing a wheelchair in Axim to supplying learning tools across Ghana and Canada, is a testament to what we can achieve together. Every donation, every volunteer hour, and every shared story contributes to a brighter future for children in need.
